Task 2: WHAT'S THE MATTER?

Imagine that you are in Laura in America's TV programme and want help for a problem that you have.
Give suggestions or advice for the following problem:

Hi, Laura,
I am  Maria from Mexico. I am a language instructor at CELEX CEC Allende from Instituto Politecnico Nacional. I teach English language to adults.
I have been teaching English for about 12 years and as a teacher I would say there have been good and bad things.
For example of good things are that you know lots of people and have rewards such as grants to be trained abroad. Also as a teacher I have the opportunity to develop professionally and as a person and work in different places for the State as well as, private sector.
Eventhough I am happy with my work, I have to say that there has always been a problem which I can't handle. I have tried to do several remedies but still the problem remains.

At whatever schedule students are suppose to arrive at their normal schedule, which is for example, 11- 13 hrs and  most of them arrive 10, 15 or even later than the half an hour.
I've tried to encourage them to be on time and get the notes from their partners to update, but still they do the same not taking into account their absences due to personal issues.

So I'd like you to give me some advice to this matter and tell me, what should I do?

Thanks in advanced,
Regards,
Maria

  1. Hi María, well I am a teacher too, in my experience I try to do things the way I have thought despite having students who do not meet well with your schedule. Do not worry about it and the time you have with them take advantage of them to the fullest. that's my advice.

  3. Hi, teacher Maria! I’m a language student. When I or one of my classmates have the necessity to arrive late continually for some problem of schedule, our teachers supporter us, but we also must to give something back, for example we must do some extra activities, such as a presentation, one speech or another cultural o musical activity, some of these activities are some shameful for us, as our French teacher ask to us for sing in front of our classmates. Even our Italian teacher give us some lines from a piece of theatre for play it. Well, I hope to my advices help you.

  4. Hi, Maria...I'm a housewife and an English student..as an English student I notice doesn't matter the schedule... always there are classmates who arrive later..maybe you need to ask each one the razon... so you come to an agreement...and with your professor criteria make the best decision about this problem.

  6. Hi Maria, In my opinion you are a good teacher.
    My advice:
Never give up, and be confident in what you do. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all the odds.

PUSH YOURSELF TO THE LIMIT AND NEVER GIVE UP !!!
